Where Have All The Farmers Gone? Oh, Where, Oh, Where Can They Be?

flower

There was a time on my server that I could buy low level Northrend herbs for as low as 10g/stack; although normally they were around 12-13g/stack. Higher level Northrend herbs were going for 20-25g/stack. Today it’s more like 20-25g/stack and 30-35g/stack respectively with only about a page listings worth of herbs when we’re lucky and 10 times luckier if they’re complete stacks of 20!

So where are the farmers? I have a theory…

Oh, Where, Oh, Where Have The Farmers Gone?
Tune: Oh, Where, Oh, Where Has My Little Dog Gone

Oh, where, oh, where have the farmers gone?
Oh, where, oh, where can they be?
I need my herbs and there’s none to buy
Oh, where, oh, where can they be?

Where Have All The Farmers Gone?
Tune: Where Have All The Flowers Gone

Where have all the flowers gone?
    Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
    Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Farmers have picked them every one
    When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?Where have all the farmers gone?
    Long time passing
Where have all the farmers gone?
    Long time ago
Where have all the farmers gone?
    Banned by China every one
    When will they ever learn?
    When will they ever learn?

Who says gold farmers don’t have an effect on the WoW economy? 😛

  1. guess you’ll have to grow your own

  2. I just got a nice business idea… maybe I should make my druid a herbalist now :p

  3. @davis – too bad i’m too lazy. 🙂

    @Kel – LOL!

  4. The China situations have had some impact; summer has an impact; working on AT dailies leaves less time for farming. But i think the biggest impact is from card players – scribes making Darkmoon cards. Say someone decides they want to sell 4 darkmoon Nobles decks this month: so if they buy a card or two and are reasonablely lucky they need to make about 150 cards to get 4 decks. It takes about 85 deadnettle to make each card so that is about 13,000 deadnettle (650 stacks) that are either farmed and consumed instead of being sold or bought on AH. 650 stacks can move the herb prices a bit. If 40 DM:G sell this month on your server, then that is 130,000 deadnettle being milled. 120 cards would be … Maybe it is because I am a much more active scribe than alchemist but with the 1 pot per fight rule I see inscription having a non-trivial impact on herb prices.

I certainly see herb prices move up when the Faire is in town
